Washington, D.C., July 7, 2016—The opening ceremony was held in the auditorium last night, and the first day of competition for the world deaf volleyball championships begins today on two courts. To complete all preliminary round matches in an 8-team pool in 6 days instead of a week, all teams will have to play two matches in a single day just once.
The last three days of the 9-day championship event consist of the quarterfinals, consolation matches for places 5 through 8, semifinals, and bronze and gold medal matches. During those playoffs, one of the courts will become the pre-match warmup, and the other one will be used as the main court.
The volleyball tournament will continue daily with five games scheduled everyday at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. EDT on two courts until Tuesday, July 12th. From that day forward using only one court, a 6-match day along with the addition of an extra time slot (9:00 a.m.) is scheduled.
If you plan to come and watch the games, you can purchase tickets at the gym or online at http://www.eventbee.com/event?eid=144640812.
